I’ve had quite a few desserts, and this Matcha Tiramisu from Raku in New York City definitely makes my list of top desserts I’ve ever had! Light, sweet, and fluffy mascarpone cream with a strong, bitter matcha powder equals the perfect balanced dessert. I’ve been to Japan before, and their matcha was fantastic, but nothing beats this dessert, especially in the matcha category. Aside from Raku’s dessert, I think it’s worth noting that their food is also incredible. Japan worthy! Also, a little tidbit: the Raku in Midtown West (the location I visited) is the only Raku in NYC that has an extended sushi menu, and their sushi is not worth missing!
Since this is my first recommendation blog post, there are a few things I think about when I rate things I eat. First, is it well balanced? From flavors to textures to presentation, there needs to be a balance to avoid one of those categories from overwhelming the dish. Second, would I make the effort to come all the way back to this place to get it a second time? As a strong self-proclaimed foodie, there are only two reasons why I would ever go back to the same place again. (1) It was just THAT good, or (2) it’s someone else’s pick. For me to go back to the same place twice…that means it was absolutely scrumptious!!! And lastly, would I put my (very unknown) reputation on the line? I take my food hobby very seriously, and if it makes it to this blog, then you know it’s worth trying and not too sweet approved!
